Organ

The Basilica’s organ was built by Casavant & Frères of Saint-Hyacinthe, Quebec. The organ console is situated at the centre of the choir loft and the pipes are concealed in the recesses at each side of the choir loft. On December 16, 1945, Bishop Georges-Léon Pelletier, auxiliary bishop of Quebec City, blessed the organs. Mr. François-Xavier Nadeau, then the organist at the Basilica, inaugurated them. In 1988, Mr. Sylvain Doyon, an organist from Quebec City, completely refurbished the specification; today’s organ has 44 stops. The duties of organist at the Shrine can be rather challenging, and are shared by three talented musicians: Mrs. Céline Simard, Mrs. Marie-Cécile Nadeau, and Mr. Pierre Bouchard.
